This album and it's songs have given me so much to really think about, especially vice verses. I have listened to that song at least 100,000 times! It really gets me thinking about some of the things in life, especially when Jon says, "Where is God in the city life? Where is God in the city light? Where is God in the earthquake? Where is God in the genecide?" That really gets me thinking about whats been happening in the world, especially in Paris with the recent bombings. Evry other song like Dark Horses or Where I Belong are soooo inspirational for me. They inspire so many ideas for me and just give me new hope at the same time. I think switchfoot hit an absolute home run with this album!

This is the sound that Switchfoot needs to be at. This Album is the perfect balance of incorporating old Switchfoot styles with trying new things as well. They were both unique and professional, and this style of Alternative-Rock is incredible! The album starts at a high point with the rock song “Afterlife”. It sets the theme for the album. Then “Original” is a classic Switchfoot rock song that is almost jazzy. It has a Switchfoot feel to it. Then, “War Inside” is more of an electronic rock feel, and it’s cool. Switchfoot tones it down a bit for a power ballad in “Restless” that is at the level of many other Switchfoot power ballads before it in previous albums.

I could listen to this whole album straight through and love every song. The Hello Hurricane album live is much better than the studio version in my opinion.
  • Wow.

i wasn't sure what i would find from looking into this band because I'm not usually a fan of rock-type music, but when i heard these songs i discovered that not only is each one unique with a different tone, but each one sounds amazing! What a lucky find.

It's awesome that Switchfoot is trying to go a different direction musically and it's definitely audible in this album. This album screams this new musical approach. This album offers such a diverse palette of new sounds, not to mention in a good way. Just thinking about the amount of new sounds in this album is pretty burdensome actually, which is a good thing. However, despite this new musical approach and the overall awesome sounds, the album doesn't feel right for me. It's like wearing a new skin (it feels weird). The songs that this album offers are in a way shallow. There's just something missing that makes me want to remember these songs. There were some exceptions for me like "Where I Belong" and the simple, yet deep "Vice Verses", the songs on this album don't have that familiar Switchfoot nuance and "flair." When I listen to these songs, I can't say, "Man, this album is definitely Switchfoot. I like the fact that Switchfoot is trying new thing, but I'm hoping that they'll come again through their new stuff.

One of my favorite albums of theirs. Jon has the voice of an angel. Effortlessly amazing vocals. Songs that encourage you and lift you up when you feel hopeless & down in the dumps. Sometimes i feel that most of our generation's music at the end of the day, really has no substance & meaning. & then Switchfoot proves me wrong. Thank God!
  • Absolutely excellent

It's music like this that makes me question the validity of today's so-called "hottest hits." This is another incredibly complete album. Oh yeah, Vice Verses also has Where I Belong on it. That alone should be enough to buy this thing.

  • Total let-down. What happened, Jon?

I was very excited for this album, but after listening to it I was extremely disappointed. I have followed switchfoot for several years now, and after listening to all their other albums, I can say that this is a letdown. Many of the songs are repetative, disappointingly trite and are no different than on the average mediocre rock album. Although songs like Vice Verses, Where I Belong, and Selling the News somewhat redeem the album with the lyrics and sound, as a whole the album doesn't live up at all to their previous albums. Some songs like The Original and Thrive are simply so full of bad rhymes, poor sound and surface-level themes that I can't even listen to them without becoming sad at this total let-down in quality. I have always admired the depth of switchfoot songs, and Jon Foreman is one of my heroes, but this album simply doesn't live up to anything else they've produced. In fact, their debut album "The Legend of Chin" has some better writting than this album, and the shallow lyrics in songs like Rise Above It don't compare to Jon's work with Nothing is Sound or Oh!Gravity. I fear that my favorite band has sold out to the typical-sounding, typical-themed rock songs of our age, I only hope they will fix up their quality in their next album.
