There is zero instrument dancing anymore every album is just every instrument at full bore competing against the other. Basically every instrument playing the melody. Rush just became insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Sorry but after Power Windows they were done

Probably the best Rush album since Power Windows. And for those of you complaining about the new mix I have a brilliant idea...Listen to the original mix that you bought back in 02!!! As far as the quality of songs go, they're here in spades and not a single misfire... Too many good ones to mention but my favs are Peaceable Kingdom, Secret Touch, Nocturne & Vapor Trail.

I wanted so badly to love this album when it was first released - the comeback album from my favorite band, rising from the ashes of unimaginable tragedy. I knew that emotions were raw, and the music definitely reflected that; but the mix was harsh, the levels were clipping, and it didn't sound like the songs had any breathing room. Bravo to the band for listening to their fans and remastering this gem. It has a much more open, spacious quality to it that the songs really deserve, while still retaining the heaviness and grit. It's now back in heavy rotation among all the other Rush albums where it belongs!
Am I the only one who thinks the original version was better?

Much as I hate to give a Rush album a 3 star review, that's what's I'm giving this reissue, not because it's a bad album (far from it) but because of the production. Much has been said about the audio quality of the original release, but I find that I like it (warts and all) better than this version. It sounds like they overcompensated in the opposite direction, making the music and vocals sound thin, hollow and tinny. Give me the original 2002 version any day.

I'm hearing vocal layers and guitar solos I never knew existed. I loved this album but the production was horrible and the songs fell apart at high volumes. This remaster rights all the wrongs. So glad this was released.

I was excited to hear some new music from one of my favorite bands after a 6 year hiatus. When I popped in the original release I was really blown away that a major label would actual release such a crappy sounding album. I think I listened to it maybe three times. Overly compressed and very harsh, the original sounds like somebody mixed it in a garage on cheap headphones.
A few years ago Rush released remixed versions of One Little Victory and Earthshine on their Retrospective III album and fan reaction was so positive the idea to remix the entire album finally went forward, and thank God it did. Vapor Trails Remixed is superior to the original release in every way. Details that could not be heard in the original can now be heard. The low end is actually present and the guitars aren't as harsh or 'brittle' sounding.
Alex Lifeson noted that unfortunately even some of the original guitar and drum tracks were recorded with clipping, but even, so this remix is well worth the money if you enjoyed the original release. Now if only the band would offer refunds for the original!

Get rid of the compression? Yes. Drop the low end almost completely out of the mix? Oh no. Tragic injustice to a great album. Any chance a second remix with low end returned will surface? I'm not holding my fire ... er, breath.

No its different situation(MFH) . But I liked the Vocals and music of that album Geddy’s vocals . Theres a lot of songs I like for different reasons. its music to drive a vehicle with feeling good . Vapor trails is clear as MFH.You get a good vibe off it. Distortion seems to be eliminated easier to enjoy.

Vapor Trails has some of Rush’s most memorable modern era songs. I actually didn’t mind the original mix, the songs were that good. Now its crisp and clear. Thanks. I start most of my 1/2 marathon runs and 10Ks with “Earthshine.” Great song!

This album was so good right from the start but just never sounded right!! It always sounded way too muddy and garbled together! Now ALL the songs are so clean and crisp! The drums you can actually hear now sound AMAZING!! This is a must re-buy for any Rush fan!!

I'ts been over a decade since this ablum was released. The band was going through so much pain and frustration back in 2001-2002, emotions were running very high and they captured it all on Vapor Trails. When it came time to put the finishing touches on the album before sale, they made some inexcusable decisions that severely damaged the sound quality, but the band approved it anyway. Over a decade later and they have an outsider attempt to "fix" the album, but too much time has passed. They're older, they've moved on, and they just don't view the work the same way - they're no longer "in the moment." When someone from the outside, who wasn't in the studio in 2001-2002, decides to mix the album to sound how "they think it should sound" you get Vapor Trails Remixed... The intensity and emotion are gone and we're left with a glossy shell of an album.

For the most part it was an eye-opening remix. Some parts are right there that I didn't even know about, and others sound much better.
That being said, sometimes the original mix flat out was better.
Overall, I'd give this a 3.5. I am willing to acknowledge that everyone mixes things differently, and the mixer(s) did an great job on giving this one some new life, but it just doesn't have the feel of the original.
Quality!! Worth the price of admission!

I found it interesting that the last reviewer complained about the cover. It is a new cover because you're basically getting a new album. If you notice the new cover adds yellows, and blues and purples. It is enlarged and adds new details, much like the remix. When you listen to this there is much more separation and you can really hear the intricacies of the playing. This is one of my favorite Rush albums and have listened to it countless times. "One Little Victory", "Ghost Rider", "Vapor Trail", "Secret Touch", and "Earthshine", were the standout tracks, in particular "Earthshine". I loved getting blasted with that wall of sound, whenever I turned it on. I still get blasted but I can actually hear everything! "Secret Touch" is the track where you can really hear the difference. It's really like hearing a new album! I always heard the complaints that this album was mixed poorly, and I never really understood why. Now I do. It's a beautiful new album with a beautiful new cover, fully nuanced with color. The exact same thing can be said about the music.

I always loved this album but the overall sound of the original just killed me. I was very disappointed with that. This release fixes that for me. It sounds a thousand times better to my ears. I can hear all sorts of cool things that were buried in the original mix. I'm really digging this.
