I can listen to this album when I’m absolutely elated and I can listen to it when I am at the lowest of lows. Few bands are able to capture both joy and devastation, and Passion Pit executes the marriage of the two perfectly on Gossamer. At first listen, Passion Pit's trademark poppy, overjoyed sound would make you believe the songs are nothing but sugary sweetness. A closer examination of the lyrics however, exposes incredibly dark themes such as substance abuse, manic states, and suicide. My favorites are “I’ll Be Alright,” “Hideaway,” “It’s Not My Fault, I’m Happy,” and “Where We Belong.”

I rarely buy full albums but with Passion Pit I always make an exception. I fell in love with Passion Pit the first time I heard Manners and my love keeps growing. They are just magical.

Gossamer has a couple weak spots but as a whole the album really has the ability to left your spirits even on the gloomiest of days. Terrific work by Passion Pit!

Need a post break up anthem? Passion Pit’s “Gossamer” is just the remedy for such events. Among the many perfected electronic upbeats, lay the undertone of sorrow, anger, pain, self-ridicule, and courage that is needed in relationships, however romantic or platonic it may be. Passion Pit assures us “I’ll be alright” in coming out stronger. Gossamer is more or less of a self-addressed letter to issue so that the narrator and listeners understand the pitfalls and confusion and battling in ones own mind on confronting his or her own “demons” and wars much like, “hideaway.” The honesty portrayed in “love is greed” hits the bulls eye. The truth hurts sometimes, and sometimes it is the only way to deal with what we so desperately want to avoid-our truest forms of who we are. This vulnerable and often self deprecating form of facing your own faults and fears, somehow allows the subject of each song to realize the pitfalls make us who we are, it tests our selves in knowing who we are and we are to those around us and we can be for someone else. An excellent sophomore underrated album that more people need to be exposed to, would you not agree?

I just discovered this CD a few days ago, but since then I can't stop listening to it. It's one of the best CDs I've ever listened to. It's very hard to pick my favourites. I listened to some passion pit songs before listening to this CD, and I can honestly say that they don't have one bad song. Every song they've made has been genius. I hope to see them live soon. I love passion pit!
