Coming off both Dirt and Jar of Flies, AIC’s self titled isn’t as good as those two nor as strong as Facelift. Frogs and the highly overrated Heaven Beside You are two of AIC’s worst songs ever, with the latter being more like the softer grunge bands ala Nirvana or Creed that AIC was the terrifying opposite of and the former going absolutely nowhere for an agonizing 8 minutes. That being said there is a reason why these songs sound underdeveloped a bit and that’s because the band was at an all time low with Staley going through it big time and nobody able to really get him out of it. Despite this this album is actually still great, with Grind being an awesome song by them and So Close having that Dirt feeling to it. Over Now goes on a little too long but it’s Jerry at his best vocally, and Head Creeps is worthy of comparison to Angry Chair and Hate to Feel (feeling like the third part of a trilogy almost). It’s definitely not an album for those just starting to listen to Alice In Chains, but it’s worth returning to after you’ve enjoyed Dirt and Facelift to death. It’s still a good album, but not an amazing one like their previous albums.

Personally, I love this album. Brush Away and Shame In You are two of my favorite songs ever, and the rest are great as well. And honestly, as a musician myself, I’m currently writing an album heavily inspired by this album.

IDK why people call this overproduced.?? I assure you it's not. 'Alice In Chains' is filled to the brim with good songs, 12 in all. This simply can't be overlooked and easily stacked up to Facelift and Dirt.

This album is what I'd imagine to be their most experimental album. It's fantastic in every way. So depressing and dark. It really gives a good glimpse at the struggles Layne and the rest of the band members were going through. 10/10.
Top 5: Grind, Shame in You, Again, God Am.
Every other song is really good but I really like these 5 the most.

Bought this album on release day in 1995. I’ve never cared for .This is the sound of a band out of ideas. Wayne’s passing should not make you feel compelled to like it either.
