Fuel 4.0

This is at least the fourth version of Fuel, seeing how every 7 years or so Carl and Brett switch places and bring a new lineup with them. Angels & Devils was a decent album that would've been better with Brett singing, and Puppet Strings was proof that Brett still sounds good but just isn't capable of writing very memorable songs. Now Carl's back with another singer, once again closer to Toryn than Brett, but very little works this time out. "Landslide" is a different sound but still weirdly catchy, and "Give" is a highlight as others have said. The production kind of drags this down - everything sounds processed and polished to death (especially the drums) so even the high energy songs sound rather lifeless. It's a shame those two can't work things out and do another album together, but if it ever happens I'm sure it'll be better than this.

And that's about the only thing about this album. You can definitely hear his musical style and influence. I wish they coulda just sorted it out, but this dudes voice is just so...annoying. So commercial. It's so bad, if I can't have Brett, I'd rather have Toryn back.
Just not the same

Listened to the album and it is clear that Brett set the bar and will always be the voice of Fuel all of the other vocalists are just cheap imitations.
Not beating anyone up, just speaking truth

Hello everyone. I have (in the past) partied witht he bad till 4am, been invited to jump on their tour bus and go to the next city, so needless to say I have been a fan. Did I like Brett sound and singing, yes. It was veru unique at the time raspy angst. Did his personel problems and personality conflicts end that relationship. Yes. I get everyne comparing tot he old and saying who is the bad. That same argument has been going on for decades with Pink Floyd, you are either Waters or Gilmore. So lets talk music, is it a decent album and worth a listen. Yes. Is it Sunburn or Something like Human, no. So enjoy it or sample it and move on.
Great songs

Really strong songwriting. Give and Landslide are standouts to me. Also, the best guitar work I’ve heard on a Fuel album.
A good album

First thought is, it’s a good album. “Hard “is a great song and I really like “Give”. When the band first started having lineup issues it was rumored they reached out to Chris Daughtry fresh off his American Idol run. I think with John as the front man we get a hint to what that would have sounded like. Especially on “Give”, it even flows like a Daughtry song.
Brett has a certain believable sorrow in his voice that to me works best with Karl’s guitar riffs and writings. I think Brett would have made all the Toryn stuff much better and possibly major hits.
I do feel John is a decent replacement if it has to be and he’s easy on the ears.
I don’t claim to know what’s the issues are between Brett and Karl but those dudes need to work that crap out as they are missing out on being great instead of good🤘🤘
Great Job!

Long time fuel fan. Times age and everything changes. Live long enough and everything you once knew will be different. Same goes with the Band Fuel. This has many good tracks to purchase and I did. I don't try to compare this to something 15 years ago. It's evident a bunch of work went into this release. Great release from a guy that truned 60 this year!
Decent Comeback

Definitely missing the vocals of Brett or Toryn who were both great, but there are a few bangers on here. Writing seems pretty good too.
It’s missing something.

I listened to album front to back 3 times . I have been a fan since the beginning and I know line ups change and and sounds changes , I get it , but there is something missing here and I really think it’s not going to be complete until the Original lineup can figure out a way to come together and recreate that magic and reenergize their sound. Just my 2 cents .
Best Fuel album since Sunburn !!

I agree with Starship Steve and Halvor 311 Carl Bell is FUEL !! Brett tried it with Puppet Strings the album was forgettable. Carl has always been the songwriter for Fuel and it shows! This album is great!! John has a great voice it’s a mix of Brett and Toryn in my opinion. I think this is their best album since Sunburn Lot of catchy tunes with choruses that get stuck in your head and with Kevin back on the skins it’s as solid as ever with that signature sound you know is Fuel once the song starts!
Good Comeback Album

So many reviews have been posted way before the full album was released complaining about Brett not being on vocals. iTunes needs to ban people from writing reviews before full album release.
Anyway, this is MUCH better than Puppet Strings which only featured Brett. Carl Bell is back and you can tell the songs actually sound like Fuel and not a Brett Scallions solo album. The melodies, solos, and songwriting is here. The new vocalist does a good job except a couple songs like “Landslide” use very noticeable autotune which is unnecessary. Another minor complaint is that some songs barely have a second verse or not one at all (“The Only Ones” deserves a second verse). Other than those two minor complaints this is a very solid album. A lot of catchy tunes and awesome guitar solos. “Alive” is such a banger. Songs like “See Your Eyes” and “I’m Gone” will remind you of earlier albums like Sunburn and Something Like Human.
My key favorite tracks: “Keep it Away”, “Alive”, “See Your Eyes”, “Hard”
Give

It rejected my first review but great job .. mostly feels like the guys just know how to make great songs but it’s safe…
Give is epic almost made me cry like hemorrhage.. “see” is also amazing .. rest are too choppy lyrics .. let the kid sing he is good .. sounds like Steve Tyler on one release and feels forced on some but Give is epic worthy of fuel and thank you all for it .. do it well for radio and give it the epic solo Carl without taking the feeling from it .. best song I’ve heard from a rock band in maybe two or three years Give .. feels like what’s been missing from all rock for a long while and see is near it : ) ty fellas
It’s more of a tribute band

It’s just not Fiel without zBrett Even with Carl & Kevin being back it lacks the heart & soul Brett brought to lyrics with his vocals & energy. Hopefully one day they work out their differences.
Great Tunes.

FUEL IS BACK....

By Wagdaddy123
This is the FUEL you loved back in the late 90's period. Brett Scallions put out a 'Bastardized' version which was subpar to ANY Fuelie who heard it....This LP is the read deal because it is written, produced & performed by Carl Bell, was, is & will always be THE DRIVING FORCE in this band...Brett is a clown, who lost his voice-lost his way & now looks like my aunt Edna....don't believe me-just listen to the music, it speaks for itself.

There’s a lot of bad reviews based on Brett not bring to vocalist, and although I loved his iconic voice, Carl Bell was the songwriter for the bands 1st 3 albums. His song writing is what made fuel the band it was. These news songs are different, but are well written. The sound is way more coherent than “puppet strings”. My only complaint is that the songs are all rather short. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of them and glad to have Bell’s songwriting back!
