A musical spectacle

It’s been a whole year since I purchased the album and a couple of other buys later it became clear as who my favorite artist is as of now. Sufjan’s work pleads to be a visual spectacle because of that it leaves listeners like me to imagine and ponder at the beauty of all the sounds and resonating notes made through the album. From the opener to the end there is something that everyone may find intriguing. I just hope more people like me would see this work spread some unheard stories to outsiders that never seen Illinois.
I love this album

Still love this 11 years later. Magical. Listening to this while driving through a foliage-filled landscape... I can't even describe. Thank you, Sufjan
This is it.

This was the album that introduced me to Sufjan, and shortly after I ended up buying several other albums. This music evokes a sense of euphoria from me in my early life, and after several years, listening to albums from him such as this still sends shivers down my spine. This man is by far my favorite artist, and someone whose music can sooth your soul while also evoking raw emotions. I respect this man greatly, and I really think this album if not Seven Swans, Carrie and Lowell, or Michigan should be listened to.
Brilliant

Best album of the 2000s. Since then he's hit or miss, most recent is beautifully sad.
Can't wait to see him LIVE

I've always loved this album and while his other albums are beautiful, this one stands as my favorite.

Epic masterpiece

This is, simply, one of the best albums of the past 20 years. There are a lot of different styles here, but folk is fairly central. At the same time, the productions have an enormous, epic, cinematic quality (complete with choirs). “Chicago” is the best example of this. The lyrics are great too, with a vague but not preachy Christian theme, in the guise of a work dealing with the history of Illinois. Sufjan later made his Kid A (Age of Adz), but this is his OK Computer. It’s long, and has a few dark and/or contemplative moments, but a lot of this album has an infectious energy, so it goes by fast.
How did I not like this before?!

Initially this album was too strange for me—about 5 years ago—but I played it again today all the way through. Brilliant!!!

This isn't just music, it's a story. Stevens is so good at intertwining music and story I can't tell the difference!
awsome

If you ever have an incredible dream that you don't really want to ever end, but you wake up and you feel that the dream is still happening, or you know it was just an awesome dream, but you still feel awesome even after waking up… this is how the album starts. The entire thing plays like a massive road trip, a story. They don't make them like this anymore. Buy the album. Seriously. Don't waste your time with 1 or 2 songs. The entire thing is, in itself, a flowing work of art.
still listening .
