Great album! Dylan and the Band work great together. A lot of songs that aren’t recognized, but most of them are good songs. One listen and you’ll know why it’s a classic that everyone should own.

first of all, I'm very impressed to know that you were around for the "original" recordings, so you can give a perfectly unbiased opinion . . . . . second, "number of books" ? two? last, if it cost you 150 to get a book from Japan, seek help very soon . . . . .

I don't care if this isn't the complete set of all 128 songs and multiple-takes of songs that were recorded while Dylan was laid up near Woodstock, this is a great album. Also, The Basement Tapes came out decades before the illegal bootleg Tree With Roots. For those of us who bought TBT when it first came out, believe me, we fell in love with this album. Anyone who complains that it's not as complete as TWR is obviously coming late to the party and trying to sound like they've always been here. TBT takes me back to a very specific time in my teenage years in the countryside when I used to play it over and over, along with Blood on the Tracks and Desire. Both Dylan and the Band will always be favorites of mine (Blonde on Blonde is simply one of the greatest albums ever made), but this is Dylan in a mood you just don't hear on his other albums.

There is not a bad song in this collection. I wish I could be more in-depth with my review, but quite simply this album produces great song after great song. This album is great for casual listeners. The sound and tone is not like anything else. For those die-hards who aren't satisfied, just appericiate what is given in this set. Dylan and The Band were never better.

What an awesome album. You can tell that they had a really great time recording this. I first listened to the album two years ago on a 6 hour trip up to Maine. I played this album for a week it was so awesome. It has a really raw sound to it amost like a live show. Once you learn the songs you will find yourself singing it in the car and singing along anytime you hear it. If you like the Band and you like Bob Dylan then you will love this stuff. This has become one of my favorite albums of alltime.

This is a great collection of songs but as one reviewer already stated, pales in comparison to the complete recordings from the basement tapes. Do yourself a favor if you are a Dylan fan and seek these out. "Santa Fe" and "Young But Daily Growing" are two tracks that make it worth the trouble in my opinion.

Let me first of all say that this collection pales in comparison to the actual 108 tracks that were recorded in these sessions. Monumental. There have been a number of books devoted to this period of time in Bob's life and I still read articles and such that speculate what Dylan was doing in Woodstock and why he " went into hiding". A Tree with Roots is the counterpart to this set of songs. All of which songs in the Tree With Roots are un mastered, original Reel-to-Reel recordings. If you like this album here, then go out in search of a Tree With Roots. Hard to find, but worth the hunt. I had to order mine from Japan and it cost me 150, but it was well worth it, so only if you are serious. But until you decide to go all the way, this should be enough to tide your hunger.

THIS ALBUM ROCKS! This is the best new wave album of all time. The music sounds like a freaking orchestra. I wish all music was half as good as Bob Dylan
