This is so beautiful - Beck you are incredible. I love the melodies, the feel. Uneventful Days is my personal favorite. If Janet Jackson’s “Come Back to Me” and the water level theme from Super Mario 64 had a baby it would be this album. And that’s not a bad thing. Update: the more I listen to this album to more beautiful it is. Beck is a Genius. Black Places and Everlasting Nothing are gorgeous songs.

I appreciate some of the favorable reviews and I do seem to understand what he was trying to get at, but this is one unmemorable song after another.

I love the new foray into new territory, I like that there is an element of experimentation even though it presents super polished. I met Beck in Ventura, CA back in the days of Sukia, Money Mark & DJ Shadow. This album excites me as much as Odelay & Guero. Favorite track is See Through. Run a bath, light some incense and hit the Jack (Herer that is) and turn this album up. You need to crawl inside this one a bit.
  • Wow! I have never been into Beck.

While I didn't like this album in it's entirety, Everlasting nothing and Uneventful days are some of the best songs I have heard in a while. His voice is absolutely sexy in these songs. Saw lightining and Die waiting are worth a listen as well.

————We are lost in a world 🌍 inside our minds without recognition——-where we can’t recognize ourselves or that from which we came ————anymore? CLOWN 🎪 CIRCUS. ———————- THE NEW BECK ALBUM IS A MASTERPIECE OF TEXTURE,PRODUCTION,SUBSTANCE AND FORM.WITH “HYPER,CHEMICAL”AND THE OTHER SONGS SEEMINGLY ATTEMPTING TO MAKE SOME SENSE OUT OF THESE THOROUGHLY UN-SENSICAL TIMES,IN HYPER-BOLIC MOTION OF SPACE,ZONE AND RADIANCE!THIS IS “CLASSIC BECK,”FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION—-TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OUT OF THIS ONE!YET,ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS DEFINED BY A SUB-REALITY THAT IS EVER SEEKING TO “EXORCIZE OUT” THE “GREAT AMERICAN DEMON-OID MONSTER”FROM WITHIN.... BEQUEATHED UNTO A SHATTERED GENERATION A “SILENT ORACLE,”IN A CROSSFADE TO THE RESURRECTED POSSIBILITY AND SOON TO BE EMERGENCE OF A “NEW MAN/WOMAN”RISING,”IN THE MIDST OF A “DARKNESS EVER REACHING OUT AND TOUCHING THE DARKNESS”THAT IS OURS——IF ONLY WE WOULD STOP,LOOK AND RECOGNIZE THIS FESTERING TRUTH?HEAVY ALBUM BECK HANSON! I can’t understand the bad reviews for this album. Beck has written an album full of authenticity: in a way a soundscape to midlife crisis, in other way an eulogy to broken relationships, finally a sound design for an utopia founded in the sounds created thirty years ago (created by Pharrell Williams). It is a bittersweet hymn for all the men and women who grew up in the naïve dreamland built in the core of the eighties: the blind believe in progress and the tricky certainty that everything would be better when were grown-ups. How wrong we were! Thank you for the feeling, Beck & Pharrell.

Pros: The album’s production is amazing, except for Saw Lightning and See Through. The production is honestly just average on those songs. It goes for a futuristic sound and all the songs blend well together, and HYPERLIFE is one of the best intros I’ve ever heard for an album. All the songs are well produced and Pharrell Williams working with Beck to create a great album is great. Cons: However, as you move to the second half of the album Beck’s vocals become kind of bland and boring and keep me from replaying the other songs on the second half. Also 11 songs is good but because it’s not hip hop, where a lot of words are said fast which makes time pass slowly, songs go by really fast and I’d want some more music. I feel a light 9/10 or 4.5/5 but iTunes doesn’t let you do that so it’ll say 4/5 stars.

While there are some really strong stand alone songs, I really love listening to it start to finish because the songs all make sense in context.

I see some bad reviews on this thread. Strange to me that if you like Beck, you’d not like this gem. Atmospheric brilliance, he shows his genius from beginning to end on this one.
