Muse Doesn't Disappoint!

Literally all of the songs are awesome! The standouts are: Pressure, The Dark Side, Dig Down, Break It to Me, and both of the Algorithm songs. Although this album is very different from they're older albums, very different, it's still the same professional band that knows how to keep writing good songs and sound just as great even when sounding extremely different. Though you can still tell it's our old friends, Matt, Dom, and Chris.
A new Muse

Great album. Sure it’s not the Origin of Symmetry that you grew up on, but there are not any songs that I would skip on this album like I would skip on 2nd Law or Drones.
What the heck, Muse?

Two decent songs and the rest is garbage. They decided to finally sell out to pop music. Well, at least you had a good run. Here is to hoping you come to your senses and make good rock music again.

Great and needed work. I submit like other longtime fans that I miss their rock manifestation. Found myself getting more attached to the “Alternative Reality” and acoustic versions of these songs because of the more traditional instrumentation, but respect the inventive sound of the more heavily-produced album proper that serves the concept. Glad Muse are still writing.

I have been a long time MUSE fan for 7 years, and so when I first heard this album.......I’m not going to lie, I was horrified.
HOWEVER!
I listened to it a little more and I started to warm up to the songs. Now it is by far my favorite album on my iPod! I have to say, another great album!
TRACK BY TRACK:
Algorithm: I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH! The synths are legit, the lyrics kick butt, and...well, there isn’t much else to say! 9/10
Dark Side: Probably my least favorite out of all of the tracks, but still a cool song! Not really sure the lyrics fit with the actual song though. I feel like they could have done so much more with the theme. 5/10
Pressure: Love this song so hard. I think that the lyrics and the music really flow! A few months ago, if you had told me that one of my favorite Muse songs would have prominent brass, I would have told you you were nuts, but this song makes me totally rethink that! 9/10
Propaganda: I know that this song is totally different from all their other songs, but I honestly just love it. Everything seems to fit well together, I love the falsetto, and, of course, the booming synth voice at the chorus. What’s not to love? Honestly, just LISTEN FOR A BIT. Who says that Muse has to be confined to one genre? Not this girl! 10/10
Break it To Me: Another win! I love the guitars (albeit a little crazy), and I like the rap-like turn as far as vocals and drums go. Just makes me wanna dance. 10/10
Something Human: Another great song. It really just fills you with so much happiness, and I love the acoustic guitar! Really adds depth. 8/10
Thought Contagion: I have loved this song from the minute I heard it. Everything about it rocks. Just listen, you’ll get it. (P.S go see this live. It’ll knock your socks off) 8/10
Get Up and Fight: Another pop-like song, but honestly I can’t imagine this album without it. At first, this song really bugged me, but after a few plays it was one I listen to all the time! It’s a really great pump-u-up anthem. 7/10
Blockades: Now THIS is what I was expecting with this album. Powerful lyrics, epic drums and stacked harmonies? Yep, that’s Muse. 8/10
Dig Down: Again, this one took a little getting used to, especially considering the first time I heard it was at the Simulation Theory tour (Woo Hoo!) and they played it acoustic. TOTALLY not the same. You just can’t recreate the soulful feel of this song. Another great power anthem. 7/10
The Void: This one was a bit weird. It seems like the more recent albums have one song at the end that really sums up the feel of the album (Anyone remember Drones?), and once I started thinking of this song as the ‘centerpiece’, it made a lot more sense. 5/10
AND OF COURSE, THIS WOULDN’T BE COMPLETE WITHOUT THE REMIXES.....
I’m gonna try to keep these short, I’ve already taken up lots of space...
Algorithm: EEEEEEEE! My favorite song I own. Muse KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK WITH THIS ONE! The synths, the bass, the lyrics, the brass, it’s all PERFECT. I want MORE LIKE THIS. 100/10
Dark Side: ew 1/10
Propaganda: ew 1/10
Something Human: I actually like this. It’s really just more guitar. If I didn’t already have the real song, I would buy this instead.
Dig Down: ew 1/10
This album is Great!

Only after having read the lyrics did I enjoy the music. I can listen to it for the rest of my life.

I recently went to the simulation theory tour in Oakland and got hear them perform this album. I have never heard a group before that performs their songs sounding as good live as they do on the radio. Most artists sound really different in real life than they do when you buy their songs on your phone.

At first I only liked Pressure and Dark Side. The first two weeks I hated it. I even hated Blockades! But I listened to it more and now it’s my favorite album. My favorite songs are Dark Side, Pressure, Break it to me, Get up and Fight, and Blockades, etc.
I think that The Void, Get up and Fight, and Propaganda are underrated tracks. A lot of people hate those. Propaganda has a groovy prince vibe, The Void has a RBS (Ruled by Secrecy) vibe to it, and Get up and Fight has classic muse vibes. The High Note, I still can’t stop loving it.
Best Album. 10/10.
Thank you Muse.
Muse do it again!!

Continuing musical evolution

New and old at the same time. The band continues to evolve their sound, while consistently sounding uniquely “Muse”. Multiple listenings are often required for me to wrap my head around each album, and this one is no different. Good stuff.
Nice

Not as big of a fan of this as I am with Drones, but they did a good job on it.

I own, love, and have ingrained in my memory, every Muse album except Hullaballoo. When in 2012 some of the band's longtime fans freaked out about the teaser for 'The 2nd Law', which contained the dubstep piece from the eponymous track, it actually piqued my curiosity, and the album ended up becoming one of my favorites, dubstep and all. I had a few misgivings about 'Drones', but thought that, on the whole, it was a decent album.
But, as they say, with time comes wisdom, and reflecting upon the progression of Muse's career it becomes clear that the peak of their artistic endeavors now lies well behind us. Their latest album presently under review, 'Simulation Theory', appears to be the final nail in the coffin.
I can deal with an overproduced yawner or two that will do well on the radio. This seems to be an integral part of Muse's branding strategy now, and, whatever floats your boat, it puts the metaphorical bread on the Muse table. So who can blame them? However, I can only tolerate so much uninspired electronic fluff on any one album.
Simulation Theory's opening track 'Algorithm' was able to pique my interest, but ultimately lacked the suspense to make me jump up and down in my seat like 'Supremacy' did seven years ago (and honestly no Muse song has since). The same goes for 'The Dark Side', 'The Void', and a couple of others. 'Something Human' and 'Get Up and Fight' would not be out of place on a Shawn Mendes CD, though, in the latter's defense, he would have probably put a bit more thought into the lyrics. 'Pressure' comes closest to the Muse of old, and the witty 'Propaganda' is intriguing as well. But again the slick production is too much to bear for an old rocker like myself.
Pleasing to the ear though their choruses may sound, most tracks painfully lack either inspiration or energy, or both. One gets the sense that Muse spent the better part of five minutes writing each song around a few catchy refrains they still had lying around from the 'Absolution' days. So it happened that fifty percent of 'Break It To Me' consists of mindless filler built on top of one rather ugly-sounding riff. By contrast, plenty of energy was expended on engineering and mixing the monstrosity together.
To be sure, part of the problem lies with me. As the gentlemen of Muse have aged, so has yours truly. The wild hairs have made place for a white collar and the latent revolutionary passions for a calmer temperament more fitting for a responsible adult lifestyle. This means that perhaps I'm quicker than ever before tempted to roll my eyes when I hear Bellamy belt out a not-so-subtle reference to President Trump:
"When God decides to look the other way and a clown takes the throne
We must find a way
Face the firing squad, against all the odds
You will find a way"
This lyrical masterpiece vaguely reminds me of the "When fools can be kings" line from 'Knights of Cydonia', by the way. Oh, turns out that was about George W. Bush -- how original. Another year, another Republican president, but to Muse's quadragenarians the juvenile jabs never get stale. At least 'Knights of Cydonia' was a killer track the live performance of which I will never forget. I'm afraid we cannot say the same about 'Dig Down', which no Muse fan would even remember come next Tuesday absent its odd resemblance to 'Madness', another snoozer from two albums ago.
Even if it were true that Muse hasn't left me but I've left Muse (to borrow a lame cliche), the fact remains that Simulation Theory's tracks are, with an exception or two, completely uninspired and mediocre by that band's admittedly high standards. No matter how I hard I try, I fail to appreciate the vast majority of it.
Sadly, this is the way a great band ends. Definitely not recommended.
Fire as always

Voice of a Generation?

This album isn't squarely within my own aesthetic, and I like previous material better. I don't like the current "polished to the point of sterility" sound that is prevalent these days, but that's just me. That said, this is still a well conceived and constructed album. They are one of the very, VERY few groups today that write songs from the big picture view, about the themes that matter in this time. Then they do that without being preachy and still being catchy and main-stream relevant. No easy feat. So just for managing to successfully be anything other than a banal corporate revenue generator in today's music climate, they deserve much respect.
In the album description it says that the sound sometimes resembles a 1980's scifi movie. Perhaps, but we are now living in the times those movies were about. It's funny what people from the past thought the future would be like.
Freakin phenomenal!!

I haven't heard an album from them yet that doesn't have that "Muse" twist on whever the current musical trend is and this one does not dissapoint.
